J&E Shepherd Chartered Surveyors has won a tender to supply Falkirk Council with Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for around 1500 council house properties within the Falkirk area.
Under the terms of the year long contract, Shepherd’s will produce EPCs in accordance with the requirements of The Energy Performance of Buildings Directive 2002/91/EC.
With official figures estimating that buildings are responsible for around 50 per cent of the energy consumption in the UK, recent years have seen the government introduce a series of initiatives designed to encourage more energy efficient buildings.
Ian Fergusson, Managing Partner at J&E Shepherd, said, “The aim of EPCs is to encourage building owners to reduce carbon emissions by classifying exactly how energy-efficient a building is and by recommending how such emissions might best be reduced.
“We’re delighted to win this contract which will provide Falkirk Council with valuable information about the energy performance of its council housing stock and highlight any areas where improvements can be made.”
An EPC is essentially a document which states the energy efficiency of a building showing carbon dioxide ratings in bandings from A to G, with A being the least polluting and G being the most. The performance of the building is then benchmarked against current building standards and cost effective improvements recommended.
