Location
Invergarry is a village in the Great Glen on the north banks of the River Garry near where it flows to join Loch Oich. The A87 road branches off the main A82 (Inverness to Fort William) trunk road and runs through the village heading towards Skye to the west. Invergarry sits 7.8 miles to the southwest of Fort Augustus, 24.5 miles to the northeast of Fort William and 41 miles southwest of Inverness, the main administrative and commercial centre for the Highlands and Islands.
The village is mainly residential in nature. It has a primary school, a post office, a filling station, a hotel and a Community Centre. The area is very scenic with a number of visitor attractions including Glengarry Forest, the ruined Invergarry Castle situated near the village on Creagan an Fhithich (the Raven's Rock), overlooking Loch Oich and the Invergarry and Fort Augustus Railway Museum. The local corbett “Ben Tee” know as the Fairy Hill is close by.
The subject site is located a short distance to the west of Invergarry village centre on the north side of the A87 road opposite the Glengarry Community Centre and the shinty field.. The site is unfenced and is bounded by the A87 on its southern boundary, by some residential properties at its eastmost end and there is an unsurfaced forest track accessed off the A87 at the westmost point of the land which runs up and across the northmost boundary of the site. Towards the western side of the site a watercourse runs down to the A87 road.
