Shepherd’s Galashiels office sponsors Borders cycling team in Doddie’s Triple Crown 2026 charity cycling challenge
Shepherd Chartered Surveyors’ Galashiels office is sponsoring a Borders team taking part in Doddie’s Triple Crown 2026 – the major charity cycling challenge, led by Rob Wainwright OBE, raising vital funds for motor neurone disease (MND) research through My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
Known as The Tweed Sprocketers, the team will take on the event, covering nearly 750 miles in just four days and traversing the four home nations. They will set off from the Greenyards in Melrose on Tuesday 10th March and finish in Dublin on Friday 13th March, in time to deliver the match ball for the Ireland v Scotland Six Nations fixture at the Aviva Stadium the following day.
My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is a registered charity founded by Scottish Rugby legend Doddie Weir and friends to fund vital research into MND. Its vision is powerful and clear: a world free of MND.
Paul Thompson, Director of Fundraising and Communications, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation said: “Doddie’s Triple Crown is a remarkable demonstration of determination, teamwork and community spirit – values that meant so much to Doddie himself.
“With the support of Shepherd Chartered Surveyors and The Tweed Sprocketers, we can continue to drive forward the research needed to better understand, treat and ultimately cure this devastating disease.
“We are hugely grateful for their backing and wish The Tweed Sprocketers the best of luck for the big ride.”
Mike Rutherford, partner of Shepherd’s Galashiels office, said: “We are incredibly proud to support the Tweed Sprocketers in their efforts to raise funds for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.
“As a firm rooted in the Scottish Borders with offices in Galashiels, Dalkeith and Musselburgh offering expert advice throughout the South of Scotland, it means a great deal to us to be associated with a charity that was founded here and continues to make such a powerful impact in the fight against MND.
“It’s a truly worthwhile cause, and we’re delighted to play a small part in supporting both the cyclists and the Foundation’s vital work.”
David Burgher of The Tweed Sprocketers added: “Our team is made of Borderers and all of us knew Doddie. He was a giant of a man in stature and personality and has inspired us to take up this challenge.
“Every mile we pedal and every hour we endure is for the individuals and families who face MND every day with courage and determination.
“This challenge isn’t just about endurance—it’s about standing with the MND community and helping fund the research needed to change lives.”
