    Buying in Bearsden

The leafy suburb of Bearsden is an affluent town about six miles northeast of Glasgow City Centre. Despite effectively forming part of the Greater Glasgow conurbation, in local authority terms, it forms part of East Dunbartonshire.

Bearsden has had a settled population as far back as Roman times who were the first to leave significant traces they were here. The Roman Antonine Wall ran through Bearsden and the well-preserved remains of a military bathhouse can be seen not far from the town centre.

The epicentre of Bearsden today lies at Bearsden Cross, a crossroads formed by Drymen Road, Roman Road, and the A809. It has a bustling town centre full of local businesses, café’s, restaurants and more amenities through the wider area. For instance, the town has five golf courses, and one of the oldest in the world. It is primarily an upper-middle-class commuter suburb for residents travelling to Glasgow each day for work. Transport links are excellent, with well-developed railway (three nearby stations), road, and bus links to Glasgow.

As of March 2020, the average price of a property in Bearsden stands at £206,499 which represents an increase of 3.42% on the previous year and a 0.29% decrease since December of 2019. In terms of property types, flats in Bearsden sold for an average of £154,601 and houses for £162,968. The vast majority of housing stock in Bearsden is detached, and it has the lowest amount of council-owned properties in Scotland. As the town grew in the 19th century, because of wealthy Glasgow businessmen moving to the city’s periphery, a wide selection of Victorian architecture and villas are widespread through the area.
