Buying in Lennoxtown

Lennoxtown is a small village in East Dunbartonshire of roughly 4,100 residents, just at the foot of the Campsie Fells to the north. In times past it was known as ‘Newton of Campsie’, and the area around the village centred around the important Lennox Mill, one of the largest in the area. It was during the 18th and 19th centuries that Lennoxtown as we know it today began to take shape, the industry of the area attracting many workers and their families to the town.

Today, Lennoxtown is mainly a dormitory village for residents commuting into Glasgow. The natural beauty of the area makes it an appealing place to live with a rural feeling, but not actually being too far away from things. The village’s main street has a selection of independent local shops. Though, for more choice residents need to travel to larger towns of Kirkintilloch or Bishopbriggs which are relatively close by. Celtic Football Club has their modern training facilities in part of the former Lennox Castle grounds, once used as a mental and maternity hospital until 2002, but unfortunately severely damaged by fire in 2008. The village is well connected by road and lies close to the M80 and M73 motorways. There are a number of bus services connecting the town to Glasgow, Kirkintilloch, Bishopbriggs and Milton of Campsie.

In terms of local schooling, primary education is provided by St Machan’s and Lennoxtown Primary School. Lennoxtown has no secondary school of its own, but children generally go to Lenzie Academy, Kilsyth Academy, or St. Ninian’s High School.
