Who
Edinburgh-born Alastair Buchanan is an associate in our Glasgow office. He sits on the RICS Scotland Valuation Professional Group Board.
That was then
Having graduated from Heriot-Watt University in 2001, Alastair began his career at a property and construction consultancy in Dunfermline before joining Shepherd’s commercial office in Glasgow in 2005. He became an associate in 2007.
This is now
Alastair undertakes valuation work within the firm’s commercial department in Glasgow and the West of Scotland, working with a number of major institutional lenders, investors, receivers, insolvency practitioners, and private clients.
Rest and play
In his spare time, he enjoys golf and football and is a keen follower of most sports. He also plays the violin and is a member of the Edinburgh Highland Reel and Strathspey Society.

Who
Dunblane-born Chris is a RICS registered valuer and is part of the commercial valuation team within the Glasgow office.

Chris came to surveying a little later in life, having previously worked as an analyst for a commercial property data company for 6 years. He completed his MSc in Real Estate Management & Development on a distance learning basis through Heriot Watt University in 2019 and shortly after joined Shepherd’s Glasgow office.

Within the valuation department, Chris covers the Glasgow City Region, North and South Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire, West and East Dunbartonshire and the Inverclyde Region. He is responsible for carrying out valuations for a broad range of private and institutional clients and has expertise across all major commercial property sectors to include office, retail, industrial, and development land. As well as his primary role within valuation, Chris has a depth of experience dealing with all elements of lease advisory work that include representing both landlords and tenants in rent review and lease renewal negotiations.
Rest and play
Formerly residing in the City’s east end, Chris is now adjusting to life out in the sticks. In his spare time he enjoys playing football and golf, as well as hill walking (in the fairer weather).

Euan is a Graduate Surveyor working within the Glasgow Commercial office.

Euan graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a MA (Hons) degree in International Business Management with Enterprise in 2022. He then returned to Heriot-Watt to study his MSc in Real Estate, graduating with distinction before joining J&E Shepherd in August 2023.
This Is Now
Euan works within the Glasgow Commercial office and is currently working with the commercial valuation team. His responsibilities include inspecting and measuring all types of commercial property, assisting with the valuation of commercial properties and generally helping the wider commercial property team in Glasgow when required. He is currently working towards his APC qualification with the aim of completing this in 2025.

In his spare time, Euan enjoys keeping active through running and other sports such as football and skiing. He also enjoys travel, socialising and reading.

Who
Gary Louttit, MRICS, APAEWE is a GP Surveyor within the Commercial Department, based in our Glasgow office.
That was then
Gary qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1986 and previously worked with two other private practice firms, building up a licensed trade and leisure client portfolio in both, before joining Shepherd in 2016.
This is now
Gary forms part of the commercial team within the Glasgow office but covers the whole of Scotland in his specialism within the licensed trade and leisure sector of the property market.
His work includes Red Book valuations, acquisitions, disposals, rent reviews, rating appeals, and general consultancy for all forms of leisure-type properties. He also provides advice to clients on expert witness matters, holding the RICS recognised qualification of Advanced Professional Award for Expert Witness Evidence.
Rest and play
Gary enjoys walking, reading, and playing five-a-side football and is a committed Rotarian. He is also the current President of the Royalty Burns Club; a long-established Burns Club closely associated with the licensed trade in Scotland.

Dundee-born Steve Barnett is a partner in our Glasgow office. He sits on the RICS Scotland Joint Commercial Market Professional Group Board.

Having graduated from Aberdeen University in 1995, Steve began his career at Tayside Valuation Joint Board before joining Shepherd’s commercial office in Dundee. He relocated to Shepherd’s Glasgow office in 2001, becoming an associate in 2004 and a partner in 2006.
This is now
Steve oversees the operation of the firm’s commercial department in Glasgow and the West of Scotland, working with a number of major institutional lenders, investors, receivers, insolvency practitioners, and private clients. He is closely involved in business development, commercial valuations, agency, and rating, with specialisms in the corporate recovery and petroleum sectors. Steve also looks after the firm’s marketing activity.

A resident of Glasgow, Steve is married with two daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys golf (a handicap of 18), football (Dundee United supporter), rugby, travel, and socialising.
