Two United Free Churches with conversion potential to go under the hammer at Shepherd commercial property auction
Following the successful sale at auction at the end of last year of a ‘holy trinity’ of United Free churches in Shawlands, Boddam, and Gorebridge, a further two United Free churches, one in Alloa and one in Ayr, with conversion potential are set to go under the hammer in a live-streamed auction on Thursday 20th June at 2.30pm.
The United Free Church with additional hall at 76 Drysdale Street in the popular town centre of Alloa is suitable for alternative use, subject to planning consent.
The immediate surrounding area is predominantly residential in nature, though the nearby Alloa town centre offers a wide mix of commercial occupiers. The area is well served by public transport links with several bus stops located nearby, as well as Alloa train station.
The detached church, predominantly of traditional stone construction, has a rear extension which has previously been used as a church hall. It provides an open plan worship area on the ground floor, with a full gallery positioned on the first floor. To the rear are administrative offices, an open plan church hall, kitchen, and WC facilities.
Alasdair McConnell, commercial surveyor at Shepherd, said: “This C-listed building has Class 10 (Non-Residential Institutions) for its existing use and may suit alternative uses subject to obtaining all necessary planning consents.”
And a former church and hall in Ayr is located on the north side of Kirkholm Avenue close to its junction with Prestwick Road within the Newton-on-Ayr district in an established residential area two miles north of Ayr town centre.
The church is 85 years old and comprises a worship area, two offices and two WCs. The hall was constructed in the early 1980’s and comprises a hall, kitchen, office and three WCs.

The church in Alloa is for sale at a guide price of £75,000 while the former church and hall in Ayr is for sale at a guide price of £88,000.
