Buying in Juniper Green

Juniper Green is an affluent village of roughly 1,000 residents located on the outskirts of Edinburgh city centre, five and a half miles to the southwest. It shares a contiguous border with the village of Currie to its immediate southwest, Babington to the north and Colinton to the east. It also bridges the Edinburgh City Bypass. Like Currie and Balerno it runs alongside the scenic Pentland Hills to the south. Juniper Green is a designated conservation area to protect the character and feel of the village.

Juniper Green is an attractive dormitory settlement for residents working in Edinburgh city centre. Transport links are very good, the A70 Lanark Road goes through the village taking commuters into the heart of Edinburgh or westwards towards Currie and Balerno. Bus services are frequent and run 7 days a week. Though there’s no railway station in the village itself, Curriehill station in nearby Currie is a short drive away, and some residents can walk it in good time.

While a village, like Balerno and Currie, it’s got far more going on than the ‘village’ classification might suggest. Juniper Green has its own local shops, including an optician, a chemist, two pubs, a fish and chip shop, an Italian restaurant, garden shop, barbers, hairdressers and even a bike repair shop. It also has a nearby golf course, bowling club, and tennis club. So, it certainly has more of and a wider type of services than most villages. But then most villages are not on the periphery of the Capital city. Residents also benefit greatly from proximity to Edinburgh for even more choice of shops and amenities which can be reached in a relatively short span of time. Like Balerno and Currie, Juniper Green also offers residents much from its proximity to the scenic Pentland Hills to the south of the village. The Pentland Hills and regional park as you would expect are an area awash with natural beauty. In fact, over 10,000 hectares of countryside and 100km of paths of natural beauty, with plenty of opportunities for walking, running, cycling, horse riding, fishing, orienteering, bird spotting and more. For golfers, Baberton Golf Club is a popular course, offering terrific views right over Edinburgh and challenges for golfers at all levels.

In terms of local education, Juniper Green is served by Juniper Green Primary School, though pupils of secondary age attend nearby Currie High School for secondary education.
