Inverness-born Alasdair is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors based in the residential department of our Aberdeen office.

That Was Then

Alasdair graduated from Robert Gordons University in 2022 with a First Class Honours degree in Building Surveying having worked part-time at Shepherds during his course. He then started training for his Chartered status which he achieved in 2024.

This Is Now

Alasdair works in the residential department, carrying out inspections and valuations of residential property for a variety of purposes, including Home Reports, mortgage lending and Energy Performance Certificates.

Rest And Play

An ex-professional football player who now plays on a semi-professional basis in the Highland League. Also enjoys watching football and darts as well as socialising with friends and family.

Chris Grinyer is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a managing partner based in our Aberdeen office.

That was then
Having joined the firm in 1993 in the Dundee office, Chris moved to the Aberdeen office in 1995 to head the commercial department. He was promoted to associate in 1996 and became a partner in 2000. He was subsequently appointed to managing partner level within the firm in 2006.

This is now
Chris oversees the Aberdeen, Dundee and Inverness offices, whilst also participating in the English office management. In addition he oversees the Commercial Property divisions with other Managing Partners. Chris is an active fee earner who specialises in Commercial Property being actively involved in investment, acquisition, asset management, agency and development consultancy.

Rest and play
Chris is a keen golfer and an avid football and music fan. He likes to read, walk his dogs and spend family time. He enjoys an active social life, and is a keen brewer, combining the interests to good effect!

Laurencekirk-born Chris Petrie is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and an associate in the Aberdeen office.

That was then
Chris joined the firm in 2008 in the Aberdeen office as an associate, having worked in Aberdeen since 1980, becoming a qualified chartered surveyor in 1987.

This is now
As a consultant in the residential department, Chris is involved in carrying out Home Reports and residential valuations.

Rest and play
He enjoys motorcycle riding, watching motor sport and rugby. Chris also likes walking the dog and having a pint of real ale.

Who
Aberdeen born Clark is a Graduate Surveyor in the commercial department of the Aberdeen Branch.

That was then
In 2019, Clark graduated from The University of Strathclyde with a BA (Hons) degree in International Business with Marketing. From there, he then attended The University of Aberdeen to pursue a Masters in International Real Estate, which was completed in August 2021.

This is now
Clark joined Shepherd’s graduate training programme in August 2021, and is in the process of undertaking training to become an RICS accredited Surveyor.

Rest and play
Clark is a big sports fan, with his main sporting interest being Chelsea Football Club. Clark is slowly trying to make his way into the golfing world – although he admits that he prefers the post-match pints in the club house to the actual playing of golf.

Stornoway-born Craig Nicol is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and is a based in our Aberdeen office.

That was then
Having graduated from Aberdeen University in 2001, Craig joined another firm of Chartered Surveyors in Aberdeen and qualified MRICS in 2004. Following a career break to travel worldwide in 2008, he rejoined his previous employer at its Dundee office prior to joining Shepherd’s Aberdeen office in 2010. He was promoted to Associate in 2015 and became a Partner in 2025.

This is now
Craig is employed in the residential valuation department, carrying out inspections and valuations of residential property for a variety of purposes, including Home Reports, mortgage lending and Energy Performance Certificates.

Rest and play
Married with a young family, Craig enjoys spending time with his family and friends. A keen follower of most sports he enjoys participating in road cycling, swimming, hill walking and winter sports.

Aberdeen born, Iain is a Residential Surveyor and Member of the Royal institution Of Chartered Surveyors forming part of the Residential Team based in Aberdeen.

That was then
Iain graduated from the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen in 2014 achieving BSc (Hons) Surveying. He then gained his MRICS status in June 2018 following the completion of the Assessment of Professional Competence and has since been working within the Residential Valuation discipline.

This is now
Iain joined Shepherd Surveyors in August 2020 and now forms part of the Residential team based in Aberdeen. He carries out a variety of inspections on residential properties including Home Reports, Mortgage Lending, and Energy Performance Certificates.

Rest and play
Iain is a keen supporter of Aberdeen football club and is also an avid motorsport fan. He also enjoys a round of golf and spends the remainder of his time socialising with friends and family.

Who
James is a surveyor working in commercial agency, mainly dealing with retail while also assisting with office. He enjoys the variety of the role and the opportunity to work with different clients and properties.

That Was Then
James spent a couple of years at college in Edinburgh before completing a three-month summer internship in London, working in residential lettings. The internship gave him his first real experience of the property industry and sparked his interest in pursuing a career in agency.

This Is Now
James is now settling into life in commercial agency and enjoying getting to grips with the retail and office markets. He’s looking forward to continuing to build his experience and knowledge within the industry.

Rest And Play
Away from work, James enjoys getting out on the golf course, watching football and spending time with friends and family.

Aberdeenshire born James Morrison is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Partner within the Aberdeen office

Having joined the Aberdeen office in 2008 after graduating from the University of Aberdeen as a graduate surveyor, James passed his Assessment of Professional Competence in 2011.  He was promoted to Senior Surveyor in 2013, Associate in 2015 and Partner in 2025.

This Is Now

James is based within the commercial agency department and with a focus primarily on the sale, letting and acquisition of industrial property for a variety of national and local clients throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.  In addition to this, He also undertakes rent reviews, lease restructuring and provides strategic advice to clients to maximise their portfolios and return.

Rest And Play

As a dad of two children, James has little free time but when he gets the chance he can normally be found at the gym, the golf course or out socialising.

Norfolk-born James Richardson has been in Scotland for over 30 years , is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a managing partner based within the commercial department of our Aberdeen office.

That was then
Having originally joined the firm in 2000 in the Dundee office as a graduate trainee, he left to gain experience within other parts of the property sector before returning as an associate in 2008 to head up the commercial valuation and professional services team within the Aberdeen office. He became a partner within the firm in 2012 and a managing partner in 2025.

This is now
James shares overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the commercial department within Aberdeen and heads the commercial valuation and professional services team within the office. He also has a remit to oversee IT, Comms and AI for the overall firm.

Rest and play
James enjoys biking and walking the dog, is a keen gardener and music fan and enjoys spending time with his family. He has an active social life and enjoys a gin & tonic and/or a glass of good red wine.

Aberdeen-born Jason is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors based in the residential department of our Aberdeen office.

That was then
Having joined the firm as a trainee in 1991, Jason became an associate in 1995 and was appointed a partner in 2003.

This is now
Involved in the day-to-day running of the Aberdeen office, Jason is kept busy by the high demand for Home Reports.

Rest and play
Married to Andrea with two children, Matthew and Morven. Jason enjoys golf, cycling, watching hockey/football and boot camp.

Aberdeen-born Mark McQueen is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and a Partner within our Aberdeen office.

That was then
Mark joined the firm in 2012 and is based in the Aberdeen office later being promoted to associate that year and becoming a partner of the firm in 2019.

This is now
Mark is based in our agency department and deals with a wide variety of stock from shop units, office premises, redevelopment opportunities and investment properties throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. He is also responsible for the day-to-day running of the agency team.

Who
Mark is a keen runner who enjoys the occasional game of 5 a side football, however more of his time is now spent helping out at his sons youth and school football teams.

Aberdeen born Steven is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, and forms part of the residential department in our Aberdeen office.

That Was Then
Initially joining Shepherds in February 2014 on placement during his university studies at Robert Gordon University, Steven continued working with the firm throughout his final year before joining on a full-time basis in August 2015. He later qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2018, before being appointed to an Associate in 2022.

This Is Now
Employed in the residential department, Stevens day-to day working involves undertaking inspections and valuations of residential property for a variety of purposes including for Home Reports, Mortgage Lending and Tax Purposes. As a qualified Domestic Energy Assessor he also carries out Energy Performance Certificates.

Rest And Play
With a young family at home away from the office, Steven chooses to spend any free time supporting Tottenham Hotspur, socialising with friends, playing golf, or occasionally on the padel court.

Who
Stuart is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and is a Managing Partner in our Aberdeen office.

That was then
Stuart joined Shepherd in 2005 as a student whilst completing his degree in Building Surveying, he continued to work with the firm on a part-time basis before graduating with a First Class Honours degree in 2007. Thereafter he joined the Aberdeen residential department on a full-time basis and qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 2008 before being appointed Associate in 2012, Partner in 2016 and Managing Partner in 2021.

This is now
Stuart has involvement in managing the residential departments in the North East and North of Scotland and is also heavily involved with our IT Systems and Business Development. On a daily basis, he covers a wide range of valuations including Home Reports for both local and national clients throughout the North East of Scotland.

Rest and play
A keen golfer and an Aberdeen Football Club fan, Stuart also enjoys traveling and the outdoors.  He can often be found enjoying a beer, malt whisky and appreciates fine food and wine.

Who

Lisa joined the Aberdeen Commercial Property Management Department in 2023.

That Was Then
Lisa worked in Residential Property Management for 12 years before joining our team in 2023 taking the leap from Residential Management to Commercial Management.

This Is Now
Lisa works within our Property Management team where she looks after a number of multi-let and standalone commercial properties throughout the North East of Scotland.

Rest And Play
In her spare time Lisa enjoys some artistic hobbies, often spends her time at the weekend with a paintbrush and canvas, and has recently taken up learning Piano. Also often seen enjoying a meal out, visiting the local pub for some drinks, listening to live music and signing karaoke.
